Description

A lorry has struck a bridge at Ely. As a result of this, trains running through Ely must run at reduced speed. This means that trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes.

We expect this disruption to continue until 17:30.

Advice for Great Northern customers:

If you are traveling in the Ely area you can travel on your normal route, but you will need to allow up to an additional 20 minutes to complete your journey.

Please talk to station staff, look at information boards or check your journey planner for the latest information.

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information. Great Northern will get you moving as soon as possible. They're aware of your location, and their teams will be doing everything they can to help you continue your journey.

Please don't leave the train unless you are asked to do so. Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment.

Planning your journey:

You can view live departure boards.

You can also view a live map of the network.

Alternative route guides are also available.

If you're travelling in the London area, you can plan journeys on alternative routes by using the TfL Journey Planner.

The Great Northern app will also help you plan your journey.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

We've been told that a road vehicle has struck a railway bridge in this area.

There will be a speed restriction for trains travelling through the area, so your journey will take longer than usual. We may not be able to tell you the exact delay until your train has passed the bridge, but we'll do our best to keep you informed.

Network Rail will be sending engineers as quickly as possible to check the bridge for any damage, and if it's safe to do so, trains will be allowed to run at their usual speeds.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
