Can you tell me more about the incident?
Engineering works are taking longer than planned, meaning your train won't yet be able to run between Southampton Central and Fareham (via Swanwick).
Operators are working to monitor progress updates and run trains as soon as possible.
Once the railway reopens, teams will get trains and crews back in place to run a full timetable, but this may not be an immediate process. Each day, a large number of trains and crews start their duties at different locations, with complex overlapping schedules. This means that if the tracks aren't available at the correct times, it can be a challenging task to get services back to normal.
Network Rail are responsible for railway engineering works. These are designed to maintain and improve the infrastructure, and this can include the track itself, the signals or the points at junctions. Staff will also routinely attend to trees and vegetation by the track, station platforms, electrical supplies and many other parts of the railway.
Most engineering works take place overnight or at weekends, keeping disruption to a minimum. If routes are completely closed during planned works, operators may arrange replacement buses or ticket acceptance with other public transport services. As these works have overrun, staff will do their best to continue to supply alternative options, but buses may not be available for everyone who'd usually use our busier daytime services.
Check before you travel:

For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page.
You can find the pick-up and drop-off location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page.
Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey.
Compensation:
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
