From Bonfire Night to Diwali, the skies are alight in October and November across Great Britain. See our pick of the best events and how to get there by train

We’ve rounded up some of the biggest and best fireworks displays for 2024. With events across the country, from London to Leicester, Cardiff, Edinburgh and more, and additional entertaintment to enjoy, like music, food and funfairs, there’s something for everyone.

1. Diwali Mela, Birmingham

Sunday 20 October

This free event takes place in Victoria Park, Smethwick and will have music, dance and food, as well as a fireworks display.

2. Low Bangs Fireworks at Godstone Farm

Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October

A fireworks display with all the bright lights but less of the bangs, which is perfect for young kids or those who are sensitive to noise. Anyone can enjoy this sensory-friendly spectacular.

3. Diwali Day in Leicester

Thursday 31 October

Part of a fortnight’s worth of Diwali celebrations across the city, this event in Cossington Recreation Ground is a highlight, with entertainment and a glorious fireworks display.

4. Fireworks Festival at Alexandra Palace

Friday 1 and Saturday 2 November

With stunning views over the whole of London, this fireworks display also has a brand-new drone show. Plus, enjoy a giant bonfire, funfair, music and more.

5. Bonfire and Fireworks at Chatsworth House

Friday 1 and Saturday 2 November

Set in the grounds of the historic Chatsworth Estate, both nights of the events have 2 displays, an earlier kid-friendly one and a later grand finale.

6. Ascot Fireworks Spectacular Family Raceday

Saturday 2 November

The jumps season kicks off with this special day. Races take place throughout the day, and there are rides and entertainment for the whole family. The evening’s event sees over 20,000 fireworks shooting across the sky.

7. Sparks in the Park Cardiff

Saturday 2 November

Taking place in the heart of Cardiff, near the famous castle, this is the largest firework display in Wales.

Nearest stations: Cathays, Cardiff Central

8. Battersea Park Fireworks

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November

South London’s biggest fireworks display is created by the team behind the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. There are 2 different shows over the weekend, with a more adult-oriented night on Saturday and a family-friendly atmosphere on Sunday.

9. Fawkes Festival in Edinburgh

Sunday 3 November

Held at the Royal Highland Centre, this event not only has fireworks and a bonfire, there’s also entertainment from the likes of bagpipe band, The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, and Spark, a drumming troupe whose LED instruments and costumes light up the night in a different way.

Nearest stations: Edinburgh, Haymarket. A special bus service, 98, runs to the Royal Highland Centre

10. Alton Towers Resort: Ultimate Fireworks Spectacular

Friday 8 to Sunday 10 November

Celebrate the end of the theme park’s season with this special event. Thrill to the roller coasters, rides and attractions (you can even ride them in the dark as the park stays open late!), then watch the dazzling display.

11. Diwali Fireworks Display in Harrow

Saturday 9 November

Celebrate Diwali and Guy Fawkes Night with a day-long festival in Byron Park that culminates in a huge fireworks display. Beforehand, enjoy a Diwali choreography dance team, face-painting, henna art, food and more.

Nearest station: Harrow and Wealdstone

12. Leeds Castle Fireworks Spectacular

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November

Spend the day at the castle and explore the house and gardens, then enjoy an epic fireworks display, alongside music, projections and lasers. Food, music and more add to the experience.
