Fleet is a major town of Hart District located in the north east of Hampshire. The town is one of the richest and least deprived areas in England. It is situated 36 miles (58 km) southwest of London and 10 miles (16 km) east of Basingstoke. It is characterised by Fleet Pond, the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire. and quaint High Street with traditional Victorian and Edwardian look and its market.

The town is served by the homonymous railway station that was opened in 1847 with the purpose of attracting visitors to Fleet pond promoting the former village as a leisure destination. The station today is on the Waterloo to Southampton line operated by South West Trains. The train journey is approximately 50 minutes long with standard trains, and just under 40 minutes with express trains. In the 1960s the former station was rebuilt and replaced by a prefabricated building and more recently in 2014 Fleet station received a major facelift giving it today a brand-new look.
Passengers travelling by train to the town are advised to purchase Advance train tickets to Fleet train station to benefit from special offers and discounted train fares. The town’s main attraction is Yateley Common Country Park, Fleet pond and Basingstoke Canal where visitors enjoy a relaxing walk, cycle, hire a boat or fish. Fleet is a peaceful town, every Saturday it hosts a busy market that takes plan in Gurkha Square, that is can be reached by visitors arriving at Fleet station by walking along Fleet Road.

Fleet station has two entrances, the main one is from Fleet road, it leads to the ticket hall and onto Platform 2, the second is a side entrance that can be reached from Minley road through the station car park leading directly to the Platform 1. A footbridge connects the two platforms. Passengers requiring a step-free access to the platform should use the car park entrance. There are toilets and a cafe on platform 2, and ticket machines outside the main entrance. Fleet railway station is located on the South Western Main line, 36 miles (58.7km) from Waterloo. The station is equipped with four tracks, the two central tracks are used for through-services. Two platforms operate South Western Railway trains between London Waterloo and Basingstoke and Southampton. Fleet train station operates the following Monday to Saturday off peak railway services. Three trains per hour are directed to London Waterloo. The second stops at Farnborough main, Brookwood, Woking, Weybridge, Walton-onThames, Surbiton and Clapham Junction. The third stops at all stations above minus Clapham Junction. Two trains per hour terminate at Basingstoke, stop at Winchfield and Hook, with a travelling duration of 20 minutes. A train per hour is directed towards Poole, calling at Basingstoke, Winchester, Shawford, Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central, Totton, Ashurst New Forest, Brockenhurst, Sway, New Milton. Brockenhurst, New Milton, Christchurch, Pokesdown, Bournemouth and Poole can be reached faster by changing at Southampton Central. Branksome and Parkstone can be reached faster by changing at Brockenhurst. On Sundays operates one train per hour directed to London stops at Farnborough Main, Brookwood, Woking, Surbiton, Wimbledon and Clapham Junction. The train journey is just over one hour. Passengers travelling from London to Fleet are advised to ensure they travel in the front part of the train. One train per hour operates between Fleet and Basingstoke with a train journey duration of 17 minutes.

In 2013, the train station has undergone a large improvement project funded by the Hampshire County Council where the station buildings were replaced, the car park was expanded to provide extra 150 spaces, a proper disabled access has been added providing a modern outlook to the station. CCTV, ATMs and Wi-Fi are available to passengers at this station. Book train tickets to Fleet and arrange fun day out with the family to Fleet Pond nature reserve. The area is well known for its beauty, it is ideal for a stroll and picnics, the pond is very shallow as it is made of freshwater.
