The August Bank Holiday weekend runs from Saturday 26 August to Monday 28 August 2023. The bank holiday is also often called the Summer Bank Holiday, or Late Summer Bank Holiday.
Some train services are affected during bank holiday weekends as we work to improve the railway. Some train companies will also be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.
There will also be industrial action taking place on Saturday 26 August which will significantly affect train journeys. The industrial action impact on Saturday 26 August replaces the original planned bank holiday changes for the affected train companies.
Be in the know before you go. Please check before you travel and use the Journey Planner to see if your journey is affected and find alternative routes.
Please note though that this information is subject to change as timetables are still being finalised, please check before you travel. Please check our Status and Disruptions page for up to date real time information.
Some of the major engineering projects scheduled for the holiday period are:
No trains to / from London Charing Cross / London Cannon Street / Waterloo East
Buses replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham Common
A considerable number of engineering and improvement projects will be undertaken during the August Holiday weekend. The impact of this work will be reflected in Journey Planners.
But, for more information on the work taking place, you can find details of all forthcoming engineering works on our website.
Please check your journey before you travel using the National Rail real-time Journey Planner.
